“100 Happy Things” or Maybe 13?

As I was thinking today, I remembered a post that I had written in August about finding my joy and photographing my “100 happy things”. Sadly, I was seriously sidetracked from my project by losing the notebook that I made my list in! I became discouraged and kind of let other projects fill up my days instead. This summer has been rough on me in a lot of different ways. My life is changing right now and my emotional well-being is not what it should be. During this time, I am determined to look to God to restore my joy and fill me with His hope for the future. He is the only One who can!  I did, however, start a second list of things that make me feel happy. This is my list of ‘God-sightings”, kind words from friends, and wonderful stories about my children that I want to remember. The reason I started doing this is so that when the Devil whispers in my ear, “Nobody likes you. You don’t matter. You have a terrible life. You are worthless.” I can look at it and remember the that those are… LIES! I also love to recite God’s truth aloud. “You are loved! You were created for a purpose! Christ died for you! You are God’s beloved child!” The scriptures are full of God’s assurance of His love for me, but it is helpful to have my own personal testimonies of God’s goodness in my life written down.  I would encourage you to do the same. It is always helpful to have a record of all the good things in your life written down to ponder upon later. 🙂

I’ve been thinking about this topic again because there is so much going on in the world now that makes me unhappy. If I were to continue looking around at what’s going on in our nation and world, as well as my own personal life, I would easily be able to write about my “100 Unhappy things”! I prefer to set my mind on Jesus and look in His word to hear what He has to say:

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” Philippians 4:8

So while I don’t have time (or a camera at the moment) to photograph all of my happy things, here is a partial list and a few older pictures to begin with. I may add more later. I am also still planning to do my color of the month photo, if I can wrestle the camera away from my husband. 😉
